One of the very first events that my husband and I went to when we started dating was the World Food Festival in Des Moines, Iowa. While I haven’t always been able to go with him, it is a fun event that holds a special place in our hearts (partially because we love to eat!).
This year, I was able to go with him, and we had such a blast!
The Walnut Street bridge is lined with food vendors from all over! Since I haven’t been able to go for the past few years, I was amazed to see how much the Festival had grown! The food vendors not only lined the bridge, but spilled over to the next street as well.
My husband tried more than I did! He had a meatball sandwich, authentic tacos (shown in photo), and we both tried home made marshmallows in a rum caramel sauce and a cashew crunch bar. While that doesn’t sound like a lot, a huge part of the Festival is their international beer tent! We were also sampling those, which filled us up quickly. 🙂
The main reason I go to the Food Festival is for the Cajun food from Fat Tuesday in Des Moines. Here, I am eating a catfish po’ boy, one of my favorite meals! Can you see how happy I am? 😉
We ran into my best friend, Alicia!
To commemorate the event, we of course had to get a photo 🙂
We definitely had fun at this year’s World Food and Music Festival and can’t wait for next year!
Of course, the show isn’t over until you do a little bar-hoppin’! We always like to visit the Hessen Haus in downtown Des Moines where we eat pretzels and drink Grapefruit Raddlers!
If you’ve never been, definitely go on a Saturday night when they have live accordion players serenading you.
Have you ever been to the World Food and Music Festival or Hessen Haus in downtown Des Moines? Let me know in the comments!
