A small adventure in Traer!

We love adventures, and Iowa is filled with small towns just waiting to be explored!

A couple of weeks ago, my husband Chris and I spent the evening in Traer, Iowa, and walked around enjoying all that this little town has to offer.

This winding stair case used to lead to the newspaper office and is listed on the National Registry of History Places. Their town festival is called the “Winding Stair Festival” after this neat landmark.

Really cool architecture! I love the way the old facades look 🙂 IMG_2984

What an awesome use of resources; this old factory was turned into apartment buildings. IMG_2986 IMG_2987 We didn’t actually go into the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum, but I’m sure it’s cool!

For dinner, we ate at the 1901 Chop Haus. This restaurant serves almost 100% freshly prepared food…and we could tell it was fresh because it took over an hour for our food to come! Even though it took a long time, we definitely enjoyed our food. Chris ordered prime rib and I ordered srirachi salmon….delicious! IMG_2990 IMG_2988 I admired the beautiful original brick during our wait…nothing beats brick!

If you’re ever in Traer, make sure to walk around and really look at the town. There are many unique sights to see!

I LOVE old architecture like that! Wandering old downtowns is one of my favorite ways to explore a new area – adorable!
